Love In The Time of Cholera

I've just finished Love in the Time of Cholera and wonder why I persist with books I don't like?

This is the second book this year that has made me feel so uncomfortabke that I've had to put it down and do something else when I get to really nasty bits. (the first was the Kite Runner)They were both Bookcrossing Bookrings, which might be why I struggled on but relly I have to learn to just give up and put it down.

Love in the time of Cholera is set in the Carribien, Although It doesn't mention this for the first 50 pages or so and perhaps I took an instant dislike to the book because it didn't lay the scene. At firt I thought it was set in Paris then maybe Spain then maybe south America, finally it mentions in passing the country.

It's a story of two young lovers Fermina Daza and Florentino Ariza, who have a brief but passionate courtship, Fermina Daza breaks it off and moves on with her life to marry Dr Juvenal Urbino, but Florentino is lost to his first love, he has a serries of affairs while he waits for Dr Juvenal Urbino to Die so he can woo Fermina again in old age.

It is a well written book, but not only is it slow going but it also seems rushed like the Author doesn't have time to finish off minor characters or tie up loose ends.

Simply I can say this is not the book for me.

Melt

It was the boy's 29th Birthday this week, so we went out to Melt Pizzeria on King William road Hyde Park.

It's a Pizza and Tapas place, and after a long while considering the menu we decided to skip the tapas and go for 2 Pizzas. we shared the Turk "Lamb, pine nuts, pomegranate, yoghurt and mint." and The 160 "Artichoke, baby spinach, lemon, mozzarella, oregano, pancetta, anchovy and parmesan."

I was really looking forward to the Turk, just as soon as I read the description my mouth started watering. But when they arrived the Lighter flavours of the 160 really blew me away.

both had nice crispy thin bases and 2 Pizzas between 2 left us stuffed.

Right I have 10 minutes to catch the Butcher over the road, must pick up sopmething to throw in the slow cooker.

Weekends in Adelaide

On Friday night I met up with a few friends for after work drinks at the Metro Hotel on Grote Street. the Metro used to be a dodgy TAB bar which was inundated with people for around 10 minutes each evening around 7pm as people going to the theatre across the road had a pre show drink. But otherwise was left to hardened locals. Now it's under new ownership and with surprisingly few changes have made it a fantastic Friday night haunt with Live music and pin ball!

On Saturday we went out for breakfast at e.t.c (East Terrace Continental) which is my favorite Breakfast place in the whole of Adelaide. I had the full breakfast and the boy had the mixed Grill. I love e.t.c. because the first time we went there I managed to drop my untouched full breakfast on the floor whilst cutting my first mouthful of bacon. The waitress whisked it away and replaced with another one almost instantly! I was so impressed with the service and it's been fantastic ever since.

On Sunday I met a friend at the goodwood markets Kuhl Kooking cafe. The Cafe makes Breakfasts with Market produce and fantastic Robe butcher sausages. We had tasty B.LT.'s (mine was no T and add avocado) We picked up a few things from the Norton Summit venison stall and decided a BBQ was the order of the day. We went for a bit of a bike ride to Waterfall Gully with a few friends to work up an appetite. The Ride was challenging... the boy got a puncture, then my chain came off, then his chain came off, I was promised that is was flat... it wasn't... it was very uphill but I made it! We got to the car park admired the waterfall (which was flowing as there has been lots of rain here recently) and made directly for the bar at the restaurant. A coopers pale hit the spot... Ah beer with bits in! And we set off home, which to be fair was all downhill, having earned out BBQ tea.
